General Description of Position:Under general direction, a commercial lending opportunity to develop and service commercial banking customers, typically in manufacturing, distribution, retail, some real estate, non-profit and professional services industries.
To develop and implement marketing plans for clients with expanding businesses.
To provide credit, deposit and other banking services in conjunction with client management activities containing high levels of complexity and involving large amounts of money.
To ensure the timely processing of all credit authorizations and loan approvals.
Essential/Required Duties and Responsibilities:
Source prospective clients and manage existing banking relationships with new customers. Conducts interviews to develop information concerning the nature of a prospective customer’s business, financing or other needs. Formulates an opinion of whether relationships will be profitable and an acceptable risk. Decides loan terms and conditions if within own credit limits or makes recommendations to appropriate authority.
Analyzes credit to determine the ability of customers and prospective customers to qualify for ensuing borrowing requirements. Has ultimate responsibility for the credit, for preparation of related documentation and for obtaining approvals from higher authority when required.
Manages a portfolio of existing relationships and loans to ensure ongoing profitability and complete conformity with credit terms. Cross-sell financial solutions, including treasury management, specialized finance, institutional trust and private client services.
Provides suitable advice and counsel to existing and potential customers. Studies industrial, commercial, economic and financial situations relating to new or existing businesses. Makes recommendations on financial and organizational structures, locations and other matters on which the company may wish to have information.
Develops a basic understanding of the benefits of all non-credit financial products sold by the Bank, including Retail Banking, Treasury Management, Investment Management, Trade Finance and Wealth Management.
Consults with CB Senior Manager on larger loans and lines; keeps him/her informed of the status of other loans and relationships.
Assists in the training of less experienced lenders in credit analysis and the use of credit analysis software. Contributes feedback for performance appraisals.
Participates in community organizations and events; represents the Bank as a responsible and caring corporate citizen and as a representative of Bank management.
Exercises the usual authority of a supervisor related to all human resources issues in conjunction with the CB Senior Manager, including staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, terminations, coaching, training and development. Ensures that compliance training and standards are met.
Desired, But Not Essential Responsibilities:
Develops a basic understanding of the benefits of all non-credit financial products sold by the Bank, including Retail Banking, Corporate Financial Services, Hilltop Investments, Trade Finance and Wealth Management.
Develops an understanding of basic bank operations.
Attends educational programs appropriate to current or future responsibilities.
Performs others tasks as assigned by the Team Leader.
Essential/Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience:
Two to six years related commercial lending and some commercial real estate loan experience and/or training; or Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university; or a related university certificate program; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience should include complex commercial and/or commercial real estate loans made to large corporate customers and secured by various types of collateral.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, the general public and professional peers. A solid understanding of business and banking terminology. Demonstrated business development skills. Comfortable selling to varied prospects, networking, cold calling and speaking before groups.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as statistical inference and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to business related situations. Basic understanding of accounting, including financial statement and credit analysis skills.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Demonstrated negotiation skills.
Ability to create new word processing and spreadsheet files using generally accepted formats. Ability to use data base programs and other banking specific programs and to access reports. Ability to use software documentation and help features. Aptitude for learning advanced features and specialized software programs.
Ability to develop and manage a portfolio between $20 - $40 million.
Helpful Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience:
Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in finance.
A minimum of five years prior experience as a Relationship Manager or equivalent lending experience.
Membership in relevant trade associations or bank trade groups.
